Midland Gun Co.

Sidelock 12 Gauge

Midland Sidelock, circa 1924, 12 bore, 2 3/4" chambers, 850 BAR nitro reproof, 30" fluid steel barrels choked .003 Skt. and .029 Lt. Full, 14 1/4" LOP over a horn butt plate, 1 1/2" DAC, 2 1/8" DAH, 1/4" cast off for RH shooter, 6 lbs. 8 oz., extractor, vacant stock oval, double triggers, round knob grip, splinter forend, smooth concave game rib engraved "Midland Gun Co Birmingham & London, automatic safety, sidelock action about 30% engraved with scroll work, Greener style cross-bolt.  Comes in a period canvas and leather trimmed hard luggage style case with a maker's label.  Very good mechanical condition gun that is tight and sound with excellent bores being dead on on the right at .729 and slightly undersized on the left at .724.  Barrel walls are very good at .028 min. thickness on both.  Gun shows numerous handling marks in the wood, some blue softening on the barrels, and about 20% original case colors remaining.  There is also a small recoil crack in the forend wood and an inset wood section replacement in the top right horn of the butt.  The bones are still excellent on this gun and it's already been opened to 2 3/4" in the chambers in England and reproved so it's easy to shoot.  She would clean up very nicely if you choose to restore her finishes but as is a very sound shooter.
