Gebruder Merkel, Suhl Germany, circa 1936, 201E Boxlock Ejector, 12 Bore, 7 lbs. 2 oz., nitro proved 70mm (2 3/4") chambers, 74 cm (29 1/8") Bohler steel barrels with a solid machined game rib, double Kersten lock extensions, ejectors, mid and front beads, choked .008 IC and .019 Mod., right rear of barrels engraved with maker "Gebruder Merkel, Suhl" and left with retailer "Waffen-Jung, Stuttgart", scalloped back boxlock action with double Kersten cross-bolt locks, pop-out cocking indicators, hidden toggle lever lock release, top-tang non-automatic safety, selectable single trigger, old silver finish with fine game scene hand engraving depicting pheasants on the left side and ducks on the right side both in natural setting scenes along with bold foliate throughout remainder and on bottom, full background stippling gives great contrast, bottom with banner engraved "Suhler Waffenwerk, Gebruder Merkel, Suhl" exposed bottom of barrel lug engraved with assumed original owner's initials "D.R.P.", properly restocked in very nicely figured English walnut for left hand shooter, 15" LOP over a pad, 1 7/16" DAC, 2 3/16" DAH, 1/8" cast on with toe twist for left hand shooter, round knob grip, 3-piece forend. Excellent condition used gun nice and tight and correct, shows very little if any use since restock, front bead missing white insert that's easily replaced. A very high quality pre-war gun.
